Chronic Pain Care at Innova Physical Therapy

When pain has become part of your life, we help you find a way forward.

Living with chronic pain can be exhausting.

It is not just the pain itself. It is the uncertainty, the flare-ups, the loss of trust in your body, and the feeling that life keeps getting shaped around what you can no longer do. Over time, even simple tasks can feel harder. Sleep can suffer. Movement can become intimidating. Hobbies, exercise, work, social activities, and even everyday routines may begin to feel out of reach.

Many people with chronic pain have already tried a lot. They may have been through multiple treatments, multiple providers, and multiple explanations. They may have been given exercises, stretches, or protocols that did not help — or made them feel worse. They may start to wonder whether they will ever feel like themselves again.

At Innova Physical Therapy, we want you to know this:

There is hope.
Your pain story matters.
And there is a different way to approach recovery.

Bret examines a patient's mid-back while she sits vertically on a table

How We Are Different

At Innova, we do not treat chronic pain with a cookie-cutter protocol.

We do not believe every person with pain should be put through the same sequence of exercises or forced into a one-size-fits-all program. Chronic pain is too personal, too complex, and too connected to the rest of the body for that.

Instead, we take the time to understand:

  • your unique history
  • your movement patterns
  • your flare triggers
  • your body's compensation strategies`
  • how different regions may be influencing one another
  • what may be keeping your body stuck

Our care is individualized, thoughtful, and grounded in the belief that pain often reflects more than just one painful spot.

A Whole-Body Approach

Pain is rarely as simple as “the problem is where it hurts.”

The body is deeply connected. Different regions influence one another constantly. A problem in one area may create overload, guarding, altered mechanics, or compensation somewhere else. Breathing patterns can affect posture and muscle tone. Stability in one region can change load in another. The nervous system can amplify pain when the body no longer feels safe or efficient in movement.

That is why we take a whole-body approach.

We look at:

  • how your mind and body are linked
  • the relationships between different regions of the body
  • how your body transfers load
  • how you move and compensate
  • where support may be missing
  • where barriers to efficient movement may exist
  • how the nervous system may be influencing pain and protection

We are not just asking, “Where does it hurt?” We are asking, “Why is the body struggling, and what needs to change for it to move better and feel safer?”

Chronic Pain Is Real — And It Is Complex

People with chronic pain are often told to just strengthen, stretch, relax, or push through it. Sometimes they are made to feel like the pain is either purely structural or purely emotional. In reality, chronic pain is often much more layered than that.

Pain can involve:

  • irritated tissues
  • poor movement strategies
  • instability or overload
  • protective muscle guarding
  • altered muscle recruitment
  • inefficient load transfer
  • nervous system sensitization
  • fear of movement after repeated flares
  • the cumulative physical, emotional, and social stress of living in pain

We respect that complexity.

We also believe complexity does not mean hopelessness. It simply means your body deserves a more skillful and individualized approach.

Our Approach To Assessment And Treatment

At Innova, we use an innovative and highly individualized approach to assess and treat chronic pain.

We work to identify the barriers that may be preventing optimal movement and recovery. Sometimes those barriers are mechanical. Sometimes they are neuromuscular. Sometimes they reflect long-standing compensation patterns. Often, they involve several systems at once.

Treatment may include:

  • careful whole-body assessment
  • identifying inefficient movement patterns
  • releasing barriers to optimal movement
  • improving body awareness
  • refining the way muscles are recruited
  • training cues that change movement strategy
  • building new, more efficient patterns
  • strengthening those patterns until they become more reliable and automatic
  • gradually building tissue resilience and confidence

This is not about forcing your body through pain. It is about helping your body find a better way to move, stabilize, and function.

We Help Change Patterns, Not Just Symptoms

Many people with chronic pain have bodies that are working very hard, but not always efficiently.

Sometimes the wrong muscles are overworking. Sometimes the right muscles are not engaging at the right time. Sometimes the body has learned protective patterns that were helpful short term, but now continue to drive stress, fatigue, and pain. Sometimes movement has become guarded, rigid, or unpredictable.

One of our goals is to help retrain those patterns.

We use cueing and neuromuscular reeducation to help alter muscle recruitment strategies so your body can begin to move with better timing, support, and coordination. Then we build on those changes through repetition, strengthening, and functional integration so those new patterns become more deeply ingrained.

In other words, we are not just chasing pain relief. We are helping the body relearn how to move more successfully.

Releasing Barriers To Optimal Movement

When the body cannot move well, it often cannot load well. When it cannot load well, it often hurts.

Part of healing may involve identifying and addressing the barriers that keep your body from moving with freedom, control, and efficiency. These barriers can show up as stiffness, guarding, asymmetry, poor coordination, overprotection, poor sequencing, or inefficient movement habits that have built over time.

Our treatment approach is designed to help release those barriers, restore better options for movement, and help your body become less reactive and more capable.

No Protocols. Real Care.

At Innova, chronic pain care is not about handing you a sheet of generic exercises and hoping for the best.

It is about:

  • listening carefully
  • assessing deeply
  • treating the whole person
  • respecting your pain experience
  • adapting treatment to your response
  • helping you build progress step by step

We believe thoughtful care matters. Precision matters. Hope matters. And trust matters.

Our Goal: Helping You Get Your Life Back

The ultimate goal is not just to reduce pain for a day or two.

Our goal is to help you:

  • move with more confidence
  • flare less often
  • feel stronger and more supported
  • improve tolerance for daily activities
  • return to exercise, work, family life, and hobbies
  • rebuild trust in your body
  • create lasting change, not temporary relief

Chronic pain can make life feel smaller. Our mission is to help you expand it again.

You Are Not “Just Going To Have To Live With It”

If you have been living with chronic pain, you may have started to believe that this is simply your new normal.

But many people improve when they finally receive care that understands the body as a connected system, looks beyond rigid protocols, and focuses on changing the patterns that are driving pain.

At Innova Physical Therapy, we combine advanced assessment, innovative treatment, whole-body thinking, and compassionate care to help people move toward healing.

There is a path forward. We would be honored to help you find it.
